Interpersonal Relationships

We are created for relationships. One of the keys to effective discipleship is to be able to relate with others in peace, unity and harmony in pursuit of common goals. Rom. 12:16.

Interpersonal relationship is an association between two or more people established in the context of social, cultural, and faith – based influences; and are usually regulated by mutual agreement.

In relationships, we tend to influence each other, share thoughts, and engage in activities together. This interdependence generates impact on the lives of people.

Interpersonal relationships are dynamic in nature and they tend to grow and improve gradually, as people get to know each other and become closer emotionally, or they gradually deteriorate as people drift apart, or move on with their lives and form new relationships with others.

Healthy relationships are characterized by intimacy, growth, and resilience. This usually follows recognized developmental stages as reflected here after.

Developmental Stages of Relationships

Studies have revealed five (5) stages of development in most relationships. The sustainability of any phase is dependent on the commitment of the parties; and their willingness to make things work.

Acquaintance:- Is usually initiated by a variety of factors which may include but not limited to physical proximity; first impression, and previous relationships. Continued interaction may lead to the next stage, but acquaintance can continue indefinitely.

Build up:- The backbone for build up is trust and care. These two filtering agents fan intimacy, and it’s further enhanced when common goals and aspirations hold promises of fulfilment.

Continuation:-  This stage is fortified by a mutual commitment to a long term friendship and identification, which usually manifest in a desire to be together more frequently.

Deterioration:- Not all relationships deteriorate, but those that do, tend to show early signs of loss of trust, less communications, and even resentment. This is further noticeable by a gradual drifting apart of the parties.

Termination:- The final stage marks the end of the relationship. This can be avoided, and should be, where practicable. Next : Keys to improving interpersonal relationship skills

WORD OF WISDOM FOR THE YOUTHS

-One of the greatest deception of life is speculation of time especially among youth.
-Life is very short; no matter how long it may appear to be.
-So, work as if there is never going to be a tomorrow even though you don’t hope to die before tomorrow.
-Run today as if there will be no race to run tomorrow.
-Never tell yourself or allow anyone to tell you that there is much time available to you.
-Don’t be a man or woman of later, be a now person.
-Whatever you do, do quickly.

PREPARING FOR A CHANGE

This year, I pray that the accomplishment of His purpose and plan for us will not be denied us in Jesus’ name.
This month, I will be teaching on “Preparing for a Change“. Why do we need to prepare for a change? Amongst other things, as you journey through the year, this teaching will help you manage change in your entire life, by enabling you to transition smoothly from the old professional niche to a new one.
Life is actually timed! On the other hand, time is life. This explains the reason for the popular phrase “life time.” Life is tied to time. In essence, it means the way you handle your time is a pointer to the way you handle your life. To waste time is to waste life, and to invest time is to invest life. God’s Word says: Redeeming the time, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16).
A transition interval is a period of time to assess the impact of the change on your life, to regroup, and to develop a clearer perspective of the situation, your reactions, and needed decisions. Change often results in uneasy feelings, even with changes you initiate or believe are positive, because the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak(Matthew 26:41). You must of necessity possess a peculiar mentality, if you must go for a change. Until you possess this mentality, you could well remain in bondage of stagnation for the rest of your life.
Firstly, it is important to note that you are not opportune to see another year or many more years ahead of you by chance. God designed a definite programme for your life this year. If you refuse to take the responsibility of preparing for the change required, then your present way of life may not match the fulfilment of His agenda for your life.
Everything on earth is designed to function according to times and seasons. God’s Word says: To every thing there is a season… (Eccl. 3:1). The sun, for instance, rises from the east at a certain time of the day, and it must of a necessity change direction, heading towards the west as the day progresses, and then sets ultimately as it is designed to do. This clearly means that the programme of your life and my life are in phases, and as long as the earth remains, different seasons of life will warrant change at every point in time.
God is awesome! Certainly, life is designed of God to be in phases and not static. He causes new things to spring forth on a ‘now’ basis. God’s Word says: Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; (Isaiah 43:19). Even faith, by which we live, is a ‘now’ substance, according to Hebrews 11:1, which says: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Being where you are today is just one of the seasons of life, and unless effectively and maximally utilized, it fizzles away so fast, and can never be recaptured.
Many, who are older in life, end up regretting how they handled their years of existence. They lamented ever being adamant with the way they had lived their lives, even when there was room for them to make the change it requires, but didn’t.
While preparing for a change, and to be sure of how positive the change will affect your life, you can ask yourself: Am I indeed ready to take up the responsibility of the change God’s agenda for my life this year deserves? By so doing, you will realize that it is only with God that a positive change can be handled effectively and efficiently.
It is very easy for you to crave for a change but too difficult to put together the transition by your own power. When you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, then and only then, can you achieve the change you long crave for. Therefore, if you are set to receive Jesus now, say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord, I come to You today.  I am a sinner.  Forgive me my sins.  Cleanse me with Your precious Blood.  I accept You as my Lord and Saviour.  Now I know I am born again!
Congratulations! Till I come your way next week, call or write, and share your testimonies with me through:

IMPLEMENTING YOUR IDEAS

The quality of implementation of an idea is determine by the platform it created.

While it doesn’t take more than a man to receive an idea it will require more than one to implement the idea. It is important therefore, that to succeed in carrying your idea through, you must assemble a group of aggressive, dedicated individuals to implement your ideas.

Ideas will die prematurely if they are left in the hands of slow, passive and undedicated individuals. Lay your eggs of idea only where you will find real incubators to bring them into reality.

The ability to surround yourself with strong, gifted and committed people is a mark of true and strong leadership.
